Pre-season for the Murdoch University Melville University Football Club Men’s state league is coming together at their new home on the Murdoch University synthetic pitches. The 60-man squad consists of 3 teams (U18’s, Reserves and Firsts). Promotion to Division 1 is one of the key objectives for the season which has so far eluded the club.

The other main goal is to offer a development pathway for young talent, with early access to the adult game. Regular 2018 pre-season starting places in the first team include previous talented Melville City junior players Rion Robertson (currently 18 years old), Daniel Davey (17) and Nemanja Jankovic (16).

This season the club welcomes James Langoya as the U18s Mens state league coach who joins former first team player Louie Granich (Reserves coach, covering for John Humphries who is recently on paternal duties) and Gavin Brown (Firsts). The squad is also fortunate to have Devin Hare who returns as squad Physio. David Long takes over Mark Robertson as VP State League representing the squad on the club committee.

The first team has seen its most promising pre-season yet with good results in the State League night beating division 1 team SW Phoenix and Kelmscott, and earning dissevered draws against Mandurah and Rockingham also from division 1. Despite dominating div 2 team Gosnells for much of the game a 2-1 loss saw MUM FC failing to meet the knock out stage but ending just behind with the same points as Mandurah.

The Men’s state league season for MUM FC starts away at Shamrock and the first home game is on the Murdoch synthetic surface on Saturday 21st April. Come along and support the teams with the U18s and reserves kicking off at 13:00 and the firsts at 15:00.
