Welcome to the Youth section of Murdoch University Melville Football Club (MUMFC); Youth encompasses the under 13 to under 18 age groups, with teams competing in Football West's 'Smarter than Smoking Junior League'.

With over 1400 players and more than 90 teams spanning all ages, MUMFC represents the biggest football club in Perth with the ability to offer any aspiring footballer an appropriate team. The Club is striving to offer an increasingly high level of competitive football, while also retaining its community roots to be inclusive for players of all abilities. MUMFC also prides itself on being a player development Club, where continuous improvement and enjoyment of the game through positive re-enforcement and encouragement are key goals.

Girls are encouraged and very welcome to play in the Youth teams, although MUMFC has one of the biggest and arguably some of the most successful uni-gender girls teams in Perth; for more information click here.

Team Selection and Grading information for Youth Teams in 2020

In 2020, the Youth teams will be selected and finalised in mid to late February, with a Team Selection & Grading day to be held for each age group. In general, teams of 2019 will largely be carried forward into 2020 however, changes will be made to accommodate personal preferences, new players and to fill gaps left by departing players. The ultimate aim is to have all players playing in teams that best suit them, their ability and each team's balance, while ensuring that each team is challenged, and able to challenge, in every game they play, all while retaining the enjoyment for the game.

There are a few things to be sorted before we finalise the Team Selection & Grading dates and venues, the most important of which is confirmation from Football West as to MUMFC's teams and division allocation (this is generally finalised early in the new year).

Once confirmed, the table below will be updated with all the information for the Team Selection & Grading days.

Grading Days will be communicated by direct email and also advertised on our clubs's FaceBook page.

Register Early for 2020

All players (as well as coaches and volunteers) need to register for 2020, regardless of whether they are existing, new or returning to the club.

Whilst MUMFC has a large number of teams, there is a growing demand for places within those teams, and it is likely that MUMFC will reach its' player cap well before the season starts.

To ensure your spot on a MUMFC team, please Register early. Registrations open in early January 2020  click here for more info.

Please note, you will need to be registered (with registration finalised and paid) prior to the Team Selection, so please register early.

General Info

Most of the junior football is played on Sunday mornings, with the younger teams kicking off from about 8:00am onwards and the older sides following later. The date of birth age group cut-off is on 1st January - for example U14 would be made up of players who turn 14 this calendar year. Playing up into a higher age group is sometimes accommodated for talented players looking for further opportunity and development. Players wishing to play up must consult the age co-ordinators of their actual age group as well as the age group they aspire to play with.

Each age group consist of typically 4 to 8 teams, spanning various Metro and Southern Metro divisions. Our most competitive team(s) in each age group make up the MUMFC Academy players typically playing in the National Premier League and/or the 1st and 2nd division Metro leagues. Selection for the Academy is made during late October or November, although some places may be held open for potential late comers.

The remainder of the players are sorted into teams during February and this process is finalised by early March. In this we try to place players at the appropriate playing level in order that they may enjoy and develop their game - but for the more recreational / social Southern division league teams, we also try to accommodate preferences such as playing with mates, etc. The competitive season typically runs from April through to September, ending in finals for the top four clubs in each league played shortly after the normal season concludes.

We rely predominantly on volunteers within the Club, and encourage training and coaching qualifications for all of our coaches, which are subsidised by MUMFC. Please contact us if you are eager to help.

For enquiries about the Youth registrations or how you can join the MUMFC team (as a player or volunteer), email the Youth coordinator (Doug Sangster) or the relevant age group coordinator for the relevant age group:
